Muktsar, December 2. Have you ever lost an original document issued by the Muktsar district administration? If you apply for its duplicate, there is a possibility that your application will be rejected and you will be told to apply again for a new document.

A lot of official files have been dumped in a broken-down canteen in the District Administrative Complex here, which is infested by rats. These files may be containing records of certain official documents.

The derelict canteen's door always remains open and documents lie scattered and open to all.

The documents with partially torn pages, mostly from 2009, lie rendered illegible covered in dust and exposed to rain water, which enters the canteen.

“Most of the files are related to domicile and caste certificates and carry a number of documents as proof. Still, officials concerned are least bothered about them,” said an employee.

Additional Deputy Commissioner NS Bath, when apprised of the matter commented, “I will look into the matter. If any official has dumped vital documents in such conditions, action will be taken against him or her.”
