Chandigarh, Wed Dec 05 2012, 01:10 hrs: The Agro Tech 2012 fair concluded on Tuesday with over 75000 visitors visiting over the last 4 days. The fair generated around 6000 business inquiries with a potential worth 70 Crore Rupees. Visitors also included around 35000 farmers from all over India who showed interest in the state of the art farm machinery like tractors, harvesters, etc. and yield enhancing seeds and farming practices.

Pikender Pal Singh, Regional Director, CII said, “The other primary objective that Agro Tech successfully achieved was in terms of generating long-term business for global and Indian companies, becoming a successful platform for a number of launches by them and facilitating the approval of joint ventures/MoUs between the companies. Over 6,000 business enquiries were generated with an estimated business potential of about Rs 70 crore. About 216 new products were launched or displayed at the fair”.

Jayant Davar, Deputy Chairman, CII Northern Region, and Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Sandhar Technologies Limited, said, “The fair achieved one of its primary objectives of focusing on sustainable agriculture and bringing farmers face-to-face with the latest state-of-the-art technologies, both in terms of machinery and agri-best practices. It empowered them to look at the possibilities of moving up the value chain and ensure their long-term prosperity. Enthused at the response generated from the farmers, 94 per cent of the exhibitors stated that they would exhibit their products at Agro Tech 2014, while 96 per cent of the visitors shared their willingness to visit the Agro Tech in 2014.”

Nine international shows ran concurrently at the fair:
1. Food Expo (processed and packaged food)
2. Food Tech (food processing technology, logistics and equipment)
3. Good Earth (agricultural inputs and farming techniques)
4. Implementex (agri and farm implements)
5. Farm Services (agri-commerce technology)
6. Livestock Expo (livestock management)
7. Sugar Tech (sugar co-generation and distillation, sugar manufacturing technology and equipment)
8. Farm Tech (farm machinery and equipment)
9. Water & Irrigation Management (farm water resource management).

Besides the above, four international conferences were hosted, where issues related to the technology in farming, dry land farming, diversification of crops, food security, increasing productivity, farm insurance, efficient water management, farm level extension services, farm risk management, innovation in agriculture and farm mechanisation were discussed.
